Drunken louts, speeding motorists and violent crime - top cop concerns in East Dunbartonshire

PEOPLE have delivered their local crime hit-list for police to target.

Drunk and disorderly behaviour, assaults, violent crime and speeding motorists all topped the list in Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs and surrounding areas.

Residents were surveyed in each council ward as part of a Strathclyde Police-wide consultation process involving 1421 people throughout the Glasgow North-East and East Dunbartonshire division.

The annual survey is carried out to gauge the views of the public on a range of issues.

This then helps local community policing teams deal with the issues that are of the most concern.

Among the top priorities residents want to see tackled are drunk or disorderly behaviour including van-dalism and graffiti, speeding motorists, assaults/violent crime, drug dealing and drug use and housebreaking and other thefts.

Car crime and bogus caller crime were also highlighted as priorities.

Chief Inspector Brian McInulty, based at Kirkintilloch police office, said: "Alongside our own force strategic priorities we will be addressing these local concerns.

"They will be taken into account when developing the local policing plans.

"Our vandalism initiatives will be ongoing in the area and the 'Cleansweep' operation due to take place between April 21 and 27 will also take knowledge of the priorities and will be directly linked to the developing plans.

"The consultation showed the results for the area to be extremely encouraging in terms of persons consulted being happy and confident in the areas they live, this along with it providing a solid base to build on and continue to improve in terms of meeting the needs of residents in our area."
