East Dunbartonshire house prices soar to new high

LATEST officials figures show that East Dunbartonshire now has the most expensive house prices in Scotland.

Registers of Scotland last week revealed that between October and December 2012, the average property in the area cost £215,300 - up a remarkable seven per cent compared to the same period in 2011.

Meanwhile in Edinburgh, which traditionally boasts the highest prices, the average sale tumbled nearly six per cent to £212,607.

As well as beating the capital, East Dunbartonshire also bucked national trends as prices across Scotland fell 1.5 per cent, despite the number of sales increasing.

Only Inverclyde property increased at a higher rate, but experts said the 21.5 per cent rise had been skewed by a few high-price properties changing hands.

Rhona Mackay, head of commercial services at Registers of Scotland, said: “When one house changes hands now it has more of an influence on the statistics than it would have seven or eight years ago, and that could be the case in Inverclyde with a couple of houses changing hands at the high end of the market influencing the average figure.”
