A former factory site which has long been an eyesore could be turned into 52 new homes if planning permission is given this week.
Springfield Properties want to build the homes on the Lillyburn Works site, in Milton of Campsie.
Derelict buildings on the site have long been a safety concern for residents.
It has lain unused for several years after the company which owned it, and was going to build new offices, went into liquidation.
In 2006 a major fire ripped through some of the buildings, while others were left in an unstable condition.
Springfield Properties, who own the site of the old printworks, have carried out a clean-up of the land.
The development would include 10 terraced, 14 semi-detached and 28 detached homes, ranging from two to four bedrooms.
The planning application - which was due to be considered at the council’s planning board tomorrow (Tuesday) - is recommended for approval, subject to conditions and a legal agreement.
The agreement includes that 13 of the homes should be affordable housing and that the developer contribute £52,520 towards open space provision and maintenance at both Milton Public Park and at Craigfoot.
The plans have been welcomed by Milton of Campsie Community Council.
The group say it will clear a brownfield site and will provide 25 per cent affordable housing “which is exactly what the residents of Milton of Campsie wish to see”.
They added that it has been “a hazardous eyesore for many years with decaying buildings, which look terrible and also pose a potential danger to adjoining properties”.
Of the neighbours notified of the proposed development, three letters of objection have been submitted.
