Farewell to Municipal Bank as Bishopbriggs Registrars moves into library

A MASSIVE shake-up of council accommodation is continuing with the temporary flitting of Bishopbriggs Registration Office to the library.

East Dunbartonshire Council is moving its services from The Triangle as part of a wide-ranging reorganisation and aims to save around £500,000 over the next two years as result.

The registration of births, marriages and deaths will be provided within the community room at Bishopbriggs Library.

The cash collection facilities currently provided by the registration office will be replaced by a self-service kiosk located in the library.

This will allow customers to make payment for services such as council tax and rent.

Registration services will eventually move to the community hub, which is planned to open in the town centre during 2014/15.

However, due to limited space and low demand, the Municipal Bank will no longer be available.

The majority of members at a recent full council meeting agreed to the move, despite Bishopbriggs South councillor Gordan Low putting forward an amendment.

He asked that the provision of the bank be continued and options explored for the relocation of services.

Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “We are working hard to find alternatives for Municipal Bank customers in Bishopbriggs.

“The community hub will be a one-stop-shop for council services which will deliver better outcomes for our customers and provide them in state-of-the-art facilities.”

The move to the library is likely to take place later this month.
