Fire plea after three women die in blaze tragedies in Strathclyde

THREE tragic deaths have prompted fresh warnings on the danger of fire.

A woman suffered burns in a blaze at a house in the Barmulloch area. Sadly she lost her fight for life last week.

There have also been fatal incidents in Cranhill and East Dunbartonshire.

The tragedy in Barmulloch Road unfolded on Thursday, February 21. Firefighters were called out to a house fire.

A 69-year-old woman – who suffered burns – was given oxygen therapy from firefighters at the scene and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She passed away last Tuesday, February 26.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue has offered its sympathies to the family.

Another fire in Cranhill also claimed the life of a woman – last Tuesday.

Firefighters battled to bring a blaze under control, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A third woman died after a fire in Bearsden, also last Tuesday. The 84-year-old was taken to the Western Infirmary in a serious condition. She lost her fight for life last Wednesday.

Assistant Chief Officer Lewis Ramsay, director of community safety at Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, said: “This is a tragic time for the families and the thoughts of everyone in the fire and rescue service are with them as they try to

come to terms with what has happened.

“Fire can take hold extremely quickly with devastating consequences.

“Every firefighter has the sad knowledge of lives lost and families torn apart by fire – we can never forget danger exists and must continue working together to prevent tragedy.”
