Formal Gerbil ‘lair’ fails to sell at auction

THE former home of a suspected gangster gunned down in a supermarket car park has failed to sell at auction.

Kevin ‘Gerbil’ Carroll formerly lived at 11 Ivy Leaf Place, Lennoxtown, a four-bedroom detached villa which was put up for auction earlier this month.

However, Countrywide Property Auctions has relisted the property on its website after failing to attract a single bid at a guide price of £165,000.

Carroll (29) had gangland links and was murdered in January 2010, outside Asda in Robroyston.

Earlier this year, a bid was made at the Court of Session to “recover property belonging to Mr Carroll’s estate, which had been obtained through his involvement in organised crime, violence, drug dealing and his obtaining of mortgages by fraud”.

The action – on behalf of Scottish ministers – was not defended by Carroll’s next of kin and, on May 1, the Court of Session granted a recovery order for the house in Lennoxtown and a life-insurance policy.

Ruaraidh Macniven, head of the civil recovery unit at the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, said: “The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 enables civil proceedings to be taken to recover the proceeds of crime where prosecution is not possible for some reason, including, as in this case, where the alleged perpetrator of the crime has died.

“The Civil Recovery Unit will continue to target assets which have been obtained through crime and, in particular, serious organised crime.”

Cash generated is redistributed to community projects.
