Friday is D-Day for nursery places in East Dunbartonshire

PARENTS have until this Friday to register youngsters for a nursery place in East Dunbartonshire.

Children born between March 1, 2009, and February 28, 2010, are eligible for session 2012/13.

The council has warned that all children due to start nursery this August, January 2013 or April 2013 must register by this Friday – January 20.

Completed registration forms can be submitted to any East Dunbartonshire primary school for verification this week – between 10am and noon.

You will also need to take along your child’s birth certificate, proof of residency and proof of legal guardianship (if appropriate).

Head of education Gordon Currie said: “East Dunbartonshire Council has a key role in ensuring that parents have the opportunity to send their pre-school or ante-pre-school child to a registered nursery establishment.

“It’s important to emphasise you should register your child between January 16-20 regardless of whether they will commence nursery in August 2012, January 2013 or April 2013.“

Every child, aged three and four, is entitled to 12.5 hours a week at a nursery during term time.

Registration forms and leaflets are available from East Dunbartonshire schools, libraries, Tom Johnston House in Kirkintilloch, The Triangle in Bishopbriggs and Southbank House in Kirkintilloch.

* The council announced in October, 2011 that it would not be funding any more places at partner – private and voluntary – nurseries for the 2011/2012 school year.

Instead, parents would be offered places at authority-run facilities – generating business and saving cash for the council.

A council spokesperson said last month: “We are about to begin the procurement process to secure private and voluntary nursery places for 2012-2015 and, as part of this year’s budget consultation with local residents, we will continue to review private and voluntary nursery/local authority nursery provision.”
