GMTV star 'backs' Kirkintilloch Town Hall
TV presenter Lorraine Kelly is backing a campaign to restore Kirkintilloch Town Hall to its former glory.
The GMTV star has sent letters of support to the Town Hall Preservation Trust and has donated raffle prizes for the cause.
Pam McGaughrin, vice-chairperson of the trust, said: "Lorraine is very supportive of our work and has sent us goodie bags, photos and a signed copy of her book.
"I watch Lorraine's show most mornings and decided to send her a letter telling her the story of the town hall, and I asked if she could contribute a raffle prize.
"That's how I started keeping in touch with her. Her letters are always handwritten.
"She even said she would be keen to come to the opening of the town hall."
The Town Hall Preservation Trust is waiting to hear if a 1million bid to the Big Lottery Fund is successful.
The group needs around 3.3million to restore the hall for community use.
Meanwhile, plans are being developed to make a documentary about the town hall.
Local trader Tony Blair, who is involved with the trust, has offered to make the film.
He said: "The hall was used for so many things and it would be great to see it open again.
"I've recently got a new video camera and thought it would be a good idea to get publicity for the campaign."
