Golf club looks to the future
Bid to attract fresh talent
KIRKINTILLOCH Golf Club has lodged an application to develop land to improve facilities.
Officials at the Campsie Road club propose to use 15 acres of land for youth and junior coaching and create a practice facility with covered driving bays.
The area, which used to be part of the course, became water logged and unusable during the late 1990s and the club plan to reclaim it.
George Kennedy, past captain and member of the club's green's committee, said: "The Scottish Executive are encouraging people to take up golf, especially children, and we want to help with that by setting up land which can be used for coaching.
"These are our players of the future and we want to provide them with first class facilities and support.
"We hope to get children interested at a young age and perhaps get local schools involved. The area we would need to infill has some trees which need to be taken into consideration."
A spokesperson for East Dunbartonshire Council said: "This application is currently being advertised and local people can have their say on the proposals."
