Good news in council budget
THERE was some good news at East Dunbartonshire Council’s recent budget meeting - £1million in extra funding for everything from road resurfacing to a new heritage trail.
A better-than-expected settlement from the Scottish Government and £3.368million of cuts made late last year meant that councillors had the extra cash to play with - even after stockpiling more than £2.3million for emergencies.
There was some debate about what the money would be spent on but the Lib Dem group teamed up with the administration to pass their programme of investment.
It includes £200,000 for road-lining and sign refurbishment measures, £400,000 to paint the interiors of Lenzie Academy and Boclair Academy and £50,000 to develop an East Dunbartonshire-wide heritage trail.
