Hall to play for in Bishopbriggs

A NEW community facility must be provided as part of a redevelopment of Bishopbriggs town centre.

That's the view of campaigning residents.

Proposals recently submitted by Muse Developments for the new Bishopbriggs town centre have suggested that the sports hall at the former Bishopbriggs Academy site will not be included in the new development.

The 800,000 sports facility was built just seven years ago.

A campaign group is currently trying to draw up a business plan to retain the hall for community use.

Bishopbriggs Community Council is now asking Muse Developments to provide the town with a new community facility if the sports hall is demolished.

Margaret McNaughton, planning convener for the community council, said: "There should be a community facility and we feel that the developers have a responsibility to try to accommodate the community's needs."

A spokesperson for Muse Developments said: "We are in regular contact with East Dunbartonshire Council and each of the community groups involved on the project and are happy to discuss any alternatives presented in relation to the sports hall.

"At the moment we do not have a proposal from the community council to review, but it will receive our immediate attention when it arrives."
