Hang on - that's a great idea!

LOCAL businesses and community councils have been praised this week by East Dunbartonshire Council leader Rhondda Geekie after they helped to sponsor the council's hanging basket initiative for 2010.

Around 1,300 was donated by three community councils and two Bearsden firms.

Those involved were: Bearsden Chiropractic Clinic, Chartwell Dental Care, Bearsden North Community Council, Milton of Campsie Community Council and Campsie Community Council.

Councillor Geekie said, "We are very grateful for the contribution made by these individuals and groups.

"Hanging baskets have, and continue to be, a popular method of enhancing our town and village centres – making them more attractive to residents and visitors alike.

"They are a natural decorative accessory which can brighten up any type of environment and produce a feature which positively helps create a more relaxed atmosphere wherever they are located.

"Historically, these baskets were something that the council provided as we recognised they were an asset which encouraged people into our town centres. Of course, this also helped boost our local economy."

A total of 200 baskets are currently being displayed throughout the East Dunbartonshire area and can be viewed until September.
