Happy birthday little baby Braveheart – grateful family celebrate with little Aarron
A BABY boy who underwent life-saving heart surgery when he was just days old has celebrated his first birthday.
Shortly after Aarron Morrison was born he was diagnosed with coarctation of the aorta - a narrowing of the major artery leading from the heart.
At just three-days-old the tiny tot underwent major heart surgery at Yorkhill Hospital.
Now, one year on after the life-saving surgery, baby Aarron celebrated his first birthday on October 5.
His delighted parents, Michelle and John, from Lennoxtown, organised a family party for the youngster.
John (36) said: “This time last year Aarron had the operation and was on life support.
“Seeing him now, it’s a huge sigh of relief. It makes you proud watching him doing what other baby’s do. He’s starting to toddle about now.”
Unfortunately, Aarron’s party was held a week later than planned after John was taken to hospital with a suspected blood clot. He tore a ligament in his knee when climbing Ben Nevis to raise money for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation.
He said: “My leg was freezing cold and I had pins and needles. Luckily it turned out not to be a blood clot.”
John and a team of 10 took part in the climb and have raised around £1,400 as a thank you to the staff at Yorkhill Children’s Hospital who cared for Aarron.
John added: “It was hard, cold, wet and snowing. We had placards with a picture of Aarron saying ‘Yorkhill saved my life’.
“Everytime it was really hard, we would look at that and realise why we were doing it. It spurred us on.”
