HAVE a heart and sign up – you just might save a life.

THAT is the plea to East Dunbartonshire residents, who have been urged to join the Organ Donor Register.

A new campaign is emphasising that three people die every day waiting for a transplant.

West of Scotland MSP Stuart McMillan said: "It's important that people in East Dunbartonshire are aware of the Organ Donor Register and they sign up.

"Signing up to the register is a positive commitment and means that someone's life could be transformed by receiving an organ transplant.

"It's vital that people in East Dunbartonshire take note of the campaign and if they feel they are willing to make a difference then they should sign up to the Organ Donor Register."

The Scottish Government campaign aims to increase the number of potential live-savers on the NHS organ donor register.

It was launched by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon recently and has been backed by a 500,000 television, radio and billboard marketing campaign.

The Government also plans to increase the number of transplants carried out in Scotland by investing in more donor transplant co-ordinators and raising awareness of the transplant issue.

Current donor figures are at a 10-year high, but three people still die every day waiting for a life-saving transplant.

Nicola Sturgeon said: "Organ transplants transform lives and mean that something positive can come out of a loved one's death."
