Help needed for flowers, lights and canal festivities
COUNCIL chiefs have stepped up the search to find sponsors for town centre hanging baskets, Christmas lights and the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: "We believe that these positive town centre initiatives, such as the seasonal hanging baskets and the Christmas lights, are important for encouraging people to visit and support the economy of our local centres.
"Whilst funding these initiatives cannot be a budget priority in the current circumstances, we have agreed to underwrite the costs through grants for this year, recognising the benefits to the community of continuing to enhance our local centres.
"But we are actively seeking sponsorship from local businesses to ensure that grant support will be minimised and continue to be available for other worthwhile community initiatives."
Any local businesses interested in sponsorship opportunities should contact the council's economic development team on 0141 578 8614/8516.
