Historic building could be brought back to life
THERE was fresh hope this week for a house liked with one of Scotland’s most famous sons.
East Dunbartonshire Council says it is working with a developer on the future of Huntershill House in Bishopbriggs.
The B-listed landmark has links to political reform campaigner Thomas Muir, who lived from 1765 to 1799.
The building and surrounding land was put up for sale.
Members of Bishopbriggs Community Council raised questions about the future of the house at its meeting last week.
There were also fears it could suffer the same fate as the recently demolished Springburn Halls.
Dominic Notarangelo, chairman of the group, ran a tuck shop in Springburn Halls as a youngster. He said: “I remember the building and was sad to see it demolished.
“East Dunbartonshire Council is going to fall into the same trap. If money had been spent on Huntershill House years ago as a community facility, it would have financially covered itself by now.”
Grace Irvine, head of assets and property services at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “We are working with a developer and hope to have an offer in the near future.”
