Hugh and Tilda are a 24-carat couple!

A GOLDEN couple have returned to their roots to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Hugh and Tilda McCann, originally from Kirkintilloch, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at the church they met in 55 years ago.

The couple, who emigrated to Canada in 1967, married at St Ninian's RC church on July 16, 1960, five years after they met at a dance when Tilda (71) was 15 and Hugh (74) was 18.

They have four children and five grandchildren.

Tilda said: "It was important to us to celebrate our anniver-sary in Kirkintilloch and renew our wedding vows. It's a nice way to celebrate.

"I think the key to a happy marriage is trust and a deep-rooted love for one another. You go through the rough, but you have to remember one another and have time for one another.

"I love him as much today as I did then."

The couple, both former St Ninian's High pupils, currently live in Whitby in Canada where Hugh worked for IBM programming and Tilda was a teaching assistant.

CONGRATS: Hugh and Tilda are given a card, flowers and a bottle of whisky from East Dunbartonshire Council by Councillor John Dempsey.
