Hunt on for “water board” bogus caller

A WOULD-be thief conned his way into the home of an elderly woman claiming to be from the “water board”.

An 88-year-old woman was approached by the bogus caller in her home at Ferness Oval, Robroyston.

He was allowed into the woman’s kitchen and turned on the taps before leaving empty handed.

He is described as being white, aged 25-30 and of slim build. He was wearing a dark suit and a hat.

Police believe there was a second man with the bogus caller who was standing outside the woman’s garden.

Community safety officer Gerry Keenan, of Baird Street Police Office, said: “If you are dubious about a caller at your door try and clarify who is there before you open your door to them.

“Don’t let anyone in your home before clarifying who they work for and what they are there to do. If in doubt call your local police office.”

Anyone with information should contact Baird Street Police Office on 0141 532 4100. The safety warning has been backed by Scottish Water.
