AN INSPIRATIONAL young woman from Springburn has overcome bullying and lack of self-esteem to take on the world.

Stacey Duffy’s achievements were recognised at The Prince’s Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success Awards, held in Glasgow recently.

The 21-year-old won the Knight Property Group Educational Achiever of the Year Award.

It recognises young people who have overcome barriers and developed new skills to improve their future prospects through re-engagement with education.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist attended the event along with stunt-bike sensation Danny MacAskill.

Actors Adiza Shardow and Taylor Rhys from ‘Waterloo Road’ were also on hand to present awards.

Bullied at school, Stacey’s education suffered and despite her determination, she left with few qualifications as a result.

With no confidence or self-belief, she made no plans for the future.

After joining The Prince’s Trust Fairbridge programme, Stacey went on a journey of personal development that would drastically improve her confidence and self-esteem.

Stacey has made lasting changes to her life and is now a confident young woman with a positive future ahead of her.

She is working hard towards gaining the relevant qualifications to pursue her passion in cycling and has the confidence and self-belief to move her life forward.

Stacey said: “Winning this award has been amazing! Without support from The Prince’s Trust I do not know where I would be now.

“Last year I had no direction, confidence or self-belief. Now I feel I can do anything.”

It was the ninth annual Celebrate Success awards ceremony – part of a regional series of events held across the UK.

Heather Gray, director of The Prince’s Trust Scotland, said: “All of the young people recognised at Celebrate Success should be incredibly proud of their achievements.

“Many have overcome great adversity and shown a real desire to build a positive future for themselves.

“Celebrate Success offers just a snapshot of the inspirational young people the Trust works with each and every day.

“Stacey is an excellent example of how outstanding young people can be, given the right support and opportunity, and is a reminder of just how crucial it is that we invest in and nurture Scotland’s young talent.

“I would like to offer my congratulations to Stacey – she has shown tremendous determination to turn her life around.”
