It's not good to talk when you're driving!

A CLAMPDOWN on motorists who use their mobile phones while driving and who don't wear their seatbelts has resulted in 44 people being fined or charged.

The police crackdown took place last Thursday and was part of a national day of action to target drivers who flout the law.

In East Dunbartonshire 28 drivers were charged or fined for not wearing a seatbelt and 16 were charged or fined for using a mobile phone while driving.

Police have been carrying out a road safety campaign across the district and are targeting a specific area each week.

This week Balmuildy Road, in Bishopbriggs, will be under the spotlight.

Inspector John O'Neill said: "I would like to thank the people of East Dunbartonshire for their support in this campaign so far.

"Our aim is to make East Dunbartonshire a safer place for all road users and we hope through raising awareness of the issues, as well as working with the public and our partners, that we will achieve this."
