Kind-hearted clubbers have got fundraising down to a tee

INSPIRATIONAL golfers have pitched in to raise an amazing £1,800 for charity in memory of a brave youngster who sadly lost her battle with cancer.

The Maya McLaughlin Trophy, which took place at Campsie Golf Club earlier this month, is held in honour of the nine-year-old who died of cancer two years ago.

While suffering from cancer, Maya was keen to raise money for causes such as Yorkhill Hospital to help other sick children.

And so this year, Maya’s family made the donation to Calum’s Cabin - a charity that helps families who are coping with a child with cancer to have a holiday on the Isle of Bute.

Tournament organiser Calum Mackenzie said: “It was a truly fantastic day and in the end we raised a terrific sum for charity.

“Everyone had a hand in making the event run smoothly, from the golf club committee to the volunteers Maggie, Megan, Lorraine and Erin who cooked, cleaned and waited on the golfers. Also, a special thanks has to go to the sponsors, without whom we would not have been able to raise as much money.

“Hopefully, with everyone’s help again, Maya’s family will be able to hold a similar event next year.”

The tournament winner was Brian Young with 41 stable points, while Team Lamont took home the team prize.

Organisers would like to thank all the local businesses and everyone who helped make the fundrsisnig event such a huge success - Olivia’s Chip Shop, Lennoxtown, Premier Store, Lennoxtown, Glazert Country House Hotel, Lennoxtown, Mohammed Sharriff, Lennoxtown and all those from Shell Retail: Gamira Ltd., Kirkintilloch; Gary at West Highways, Drumchapel; Mark Hewson (Gordon), Falkirk; Armajet Singh (David), Hillington; Ifran Razzaq, Rouken Glen.
