Kirkintilloch mum finds write way to tell kids about adoption

A CARING mum who adopted two children has published a book for youngsters based on her family’s experience.

Carol Dale and her husband Joe Brownisky adopted son Louis, now aged eight, when he was seven months old.

They later adopted daughter Sasha, now aged four, when she was 12 months old.

Carol and Joe, both aged 41, decided to adopt because they couldn’t have children of their own due to health reasons.

The Kirkintilloch couple wanted to be open and honest with Louis and Sasha.

Carol, who is a manager with Lifeways Community Care, decided to write a children’s book ‘Waiting for You’, a story about Mr and Mrs Brown’s journey to adopt a child.

She said: “I wrote it a couple of years ago to help my wee boy understand adoption.

“Louis has always known he was adopted. He has a picture of his birth mother, known as ‘tummy mummy’.

“He’s very good with it all. He’s very proud of his story and took the book to his school, Holy Family Primary, and the nursery, where Sasha attends.

“Sasha finds it a wee bit harder to understand, but we’re using the book to help.

“I didn’t published it for the money, but to help people.”

As well as selling the book on Amazon and eBay, Carol has sent copies to adoption societies.
