A major competition has been launched which will see budding entrepreneurs from all over the UK descend upon Kirkintilloch town centre.
The town has been chosen to be Scotland’s 2014 TestTown.
The contest is organised by the Carnegie UK Trust and will be supported by East Dunbartonshire Council, Kirkintilloch Champions and Dunbartonshire Chamber of Commerce.
Young business people will be invited to trade in Kirkintilloch during a ‘pop-up’ TestTown Festival - held at the start of July - with support given in advance on how to set up, sell products, develop services and marketing. Finalists will net £250, with the overall winner securing £500 start-up funding - plus another £500 in match-funding from the council or local sponsorship.
Jim Metcalfe, head of practice and development at Carnegie UK Trust, said: “Kirkintilloch is exactly the kind of high street we want TestTown to be operating on and in, and exactly the type of centre which young entrepreneurs will be interested in.”
TestTown is open for applications until April 16. Go to www.testtown.org.uk.
