Lennoxtown Chatty Club given the green light for expansion

The Lennoxtown Chatty Club has secured additional funding to run a second afternoon meeting each week.

With support from East Dunbartonshire Voluntary Action and the Foundation of Scotland, the group can now double their activities programme in the near future.

The club currently meets on Wednesday at lunchtime and provides a forum for local elderly residents to socialise.Operated by charity Community First, it is thought the other day will become a light exercise session.

Christine Milne, chair of Community First, said: “The Chatty Club is very popular in the area and is often over-subscribed, so I’m sure many local residents will be delighted with a second day.

“There isn’t a whole lot of things for OAPs to do in Lennoxtown and what we’re trying to do here is to build a nice social, peer-support network for people to come in and speak with friends .

“We’re looking at trying to arrange a light exercise programme, maybe some yoga, for the other day we will now be able to run.”

Community First runs a number of outreach programmes including Fusion, a youth club for those with additional support needs.

Also, the group currently has spaces for its free baby massage and yoga course.

It will also be holding a fundraiser at the Avenue Bar in Bishopbriggs on August 30.
