Lenzie man is hoping to be swinging in the rain!
IT is perhaps the most physically demanding role in musical theatre, but Lenzie man Brendan Lynch will take on the famous role of Don Lockwood from ‘Singin’ in the Rain’.
The fleet-footed character, first played by Gene Kelly in 1952, has become one of the most recognisable personalities in classic cinema.
With a range of different disciplines to master, the Lockwood performance is considered one of the most tricky to master.
But after five months of intense preparation, Brendan (37) feels he is ready to tackle the role when the Glasgow Light Opera Company raise the curtain at the King’s Theatre later this month.
He said: “I’ve been looking forward to this for months now and it’s definitely been the most challenging role I’ve prepared for.
“It’s an iconic role for sure, even those who don’t know the story quite so well are all familiar with the scene of Gene Kelly dancing in the street. So from that, already everyone has an idea about the play and maybe a little bit of a soft spot for it. We have a lot to live up to.”
He added: “It has been very intense. In fact I’ve lost over a stone in weight since rehearsals started back in May. Normally I’d be a lot more comfortable with the singing parts, but training for the dancing in this role has been incredible.
“I’m very proud to be able to take on the challenge, we’ve all been working really hard on the show and I’m confident it will be a terrific event for everyone. I would urge everyone to come along and witness what will be a great show.”
The GLOC rendition of ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ will feature all those memorable songs from the film including ‘Good Mornin’, ‘Make ‘Em Laugh’, ‘Moses Supposes’ and ‘You Are My Lucky Star’.
Opening night is Tuesday, October 16, with the final performance the following Saturday.
