Let’s get down to the nitty gritty in Kirkintilloch!
CONCERNED residents have called for the council to show true grit in a ‘neglected’ area of Kirkintilloch.
People living in the Greens area – including Greens Avenue, Parkburn Avenue and Greens Crescent – say roads and pavements in the area are regularly left untreated.
Parkburn Avenue resident Tommy Cairney said: “During the last two week period of freezing weather we’ve not had a single gritter on pavements or roads.
“All the surrounding roads - Lenzie Road, Boghead Road and Gallowhill Road - were cleared, but we were left with roads and pavements under a sheet of ice.
“I’m sick of reporting it to the council only for nothing to be done.”
David Devine, head of roads and neighbourhood services said that following the recent snow fall and freezing temperatures the council’s roads service had been working continuously over a four day period to clear primary carriageway and footway routes.
He added: “The Greens area of Kirkintilloch is covered as part of one of our primary carriageway treatment routes, which goes through this estate. All eight primary routes were treated on eight separate occasions.”
