Job applications for a new supermarket have soared to more than 500 in just two weeks.
Up to 30 members of staff are expected to be employed at the new Lidl, which will open on the site of a former bus depot in Milton Road, Kirkintilloch on Thursday, November 21.
Lidl bosses said the response for jobs at the new store is “unprecedented”.
There will be various positions, from store assistants to managerial roles and the company said it hoped to fill the majority of vacancies from applicants within the local area.
Alasdair Fowle, PR manager for Scotland said: “We have received a lot of positive feedback from the local community
regarding our new store, so we expected demand to be high for the job vacancies but to receive over 500 in just two weeks is unprecedented.
“Due to the high demand we will be closing our application process for this new store shortly to allow us to start processing the current applications.
“We are looking forward to opening the doors and welcoming the community of Kirkintilloch to their new Lidl store”.
It will breathe new life into the former First Bus depot, which has lain derelict for several years.
