Life's a beach

THIS year's G66+ Live Community Festival has been hailed as the best yet.

The popular arts and cultural festival celebrated its fifth year with a tremendous line-up of shows, exhibitions, performances and workshops throughout Kirkintilloch, Lenzie, Milton of Campsie and Twechar.

Festival organiser Susan Murray said: "The entire festival went fantastically well and the feedback we have received from everyone is that it was the best yet.

"More people knew about the events, attended shows and enjoyed what was on offer in their communities. We really couldn't have achieved any of this without the help of all the many volunteers who went out of their way to make G66+ such a success."

The people of Milton of Campsie are once again to be congratulated on the superb art and music events they staged in the Village Hall as part of the G66+Live Community Festival.

The walls of the hall were adorned with 70 fantastic pictures from the village art club, 10 of which were sold. The children's art workshop produced some magnificent animal caricatures and 27 people attended the lecture on the artist Joan Eardley.

This year the programme was extended to nine events, including five concerts of pop, jazz, Scottish folk and classical music.

And ten individual children performed on trumpet, fiddle, flute, sax and piano, with the show including delightful groups of dancers.

The first public performance by the Campsie Singers was especially appreciated during the ceilidh.

More people than ever enjoyed the programme this year, which involved around 60 performers and helpers - all were villagers or their guests. They deserve special thanks for their tremendous efforts.

Also to be thanked are the Village Hall Trust for promoting the community festival, G66+Live and East Dunbartonshire Arts Council for essential support.
