Locals urged to have their say on state-of-the-art Kirkintilloch sports hub plans

A TWO month consultation on plans to build a new Rob Roy Football Club stadium will kick-off next week.

The Kirkintilloch club are hoping to move to a new stadium near the town’s Southbank Marina, having sold their current Adamslie Park home to developers.

Two previous potential moves have had to be scrapped due to problems with the chosen sites, leaving Rob Roy fans hoping that it will be a case of third time lucky for the latest plans - replicating the club’s current success on the park.

As well as a full-size 3G synthetic pitch for Rabs’ home games, and stands for cheering supporters, it’s planned to incorporate many other community facilities into the ‘Kirkintilloch Community Sports Hub’.

The club have instructed consultants PMR Leisure to carry out a consultation to ask residents and groups what their sporting needs are and how the Sporting Hub can deliver them.

The first event will be held at Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre next Wednesday, November 7, at 7pm.

Any club or organisation with an interest in the development is welcome to come along to ask questions and make their views known.

There will then be several other events over the next two months - including further talks with local sports club representatives about the scheme, as well as a full public meeting.

Rob Roy treasurer Gerry Allen said: “The consultation being undertaken by PMR Leisure is essential to enable all potential partners to come forward who wish to work with us to develop something very special for sport in our town.

“We urge clubs to come forward and engage with us.”

Keep an eye on the Herald in the coming weeks for news of more events.
