Finding out whether your local pub or restaurant is a safe and clean place to eat is now just a click away.
The Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS), which has been implemented by East Dunbartonshire Council in partnership with the Food Standards Agency, will throw the spotlight on the hygiene of all restaurants, pubs, hotels, takeaways, supermarkets and shops in Kirkintilloch and the surrounding areas.
Environmental health officers inspect premises on a regular basis and allocate a ‘pass’ rating where legal standards are being met.
Logging on at www.food.goc.uk/scotland, or installing a mobile app will give you instant access to the results of regular visits to establishments by environmental health officers.
Council leader Rhondda Geekie said: “Consumers will now be able to make a more informed choice about where they eat or buy food in Kirkintilloch based on the hygiene of that particular establishment.
“At the moment 103 food businesses in and around Kirkintilloch meet the standards required and the remaining 58 will need to improve or face losing custom.”
