Mixed feelings over Bishopbriggs centre

LET'S talk about the future of Bishopbriggs town centre.

That's the agreement between developers and concerned community representatives.

More than 500 people attended a recent exhibition to view the plans by Muse Developments, who want to transform the area.

The proposals include a new, larger Morrisons supermarket (with the existing store turned into retail units), potential for further new retail outlets with offices, new public car park, housing and flats, as well as a new care home and public amenity space.

However, members of Bishopbriggs Community Council have mixed views on the plans and the locations of the facilities.

They have raised concerns over the increase in traffic they say the development would bring, and the proposed loss of the 800,000 school sports hall at Bishopbriggs Academy.

They are also angry about the short notice given to attend the recent exhibition, held in Bishopbriggs Library.

Now the community council's planning committee is to meet with Muse Development chiefs over the coming weeks to discuss the proposals.

Community council chairman Dominic Notarangelo said: "There are mixed views over the proposals and we want the planning committee to share the concerns with Muse. They will then come back to the community council and we will discuss a way forward."

Stephen Turner, regional director with Muse Developments, said they were happy to meet with the community council.

He told the Herald: "We want to see whether there are any further changes we can make to the existing scheme.

"Nothing in the proposed masterplan has yet been changed and we are still looking at what people said at the exhibition."
