Monte Carlo or rust for classic car owners in Kirkintilloch
KIRKINTILLOCH, Lenzie and Torrance classic car lovers were among the enthusiasts who set off from Glasgow Green on the world-famous Monte Carlo Rally.
Alan Duncan, David Carstairs, and Brian Johnston took part in the heritage runs of the popular event.
Around 16,000 people came out to see the cars and wave them off at the People’s Palace on Saturday, January 26.
They were led by veteran Tommy Bryce, who competed in the 1954 event.
More than 100 cars set off, with around 25 set to complete the 2,190 mile journey to Monte Carlo.
Alan Duncan, from Kirkintilloch, was joined by his wife Catherine in his 1974 yellow Toyota Celica to make the journey to Yorkshire.
It’s the third year Alan has taken part and he hopes to go all the way to Monte Carlo next year.
He said: “It was a great atmosphere. There were people from all over taking part, including Australia and France.”
Also in the event were David Carstairs, from Lenzie, driving his 1983 Opel Monza, and Bryan Johnston, from
Torrance in his Reliant Scimitar GTE. Alex McDougall, from Bishopbriggs, showcased his 1910 Ford Model T during a classic car display before the start of the rally.
