More cash for childcare costs

Local MP Jo Swinson has said a newly-announced childcare subsidy will ensure greater security for working parents with younger children.

The new policy was rolled out in the Queen’s Speech last week and aims to provide up to £2,000 towards the cost of childcare per child.

From Autumn 2015, the tax-free scheme will be available for all children under 12 in families which earn less than £150,000.

Mrs Swinson says the subsidy will ease the pressure on as many as 3,000 families in East Dunbartonshire alone.

She said: “This announcement of tax-free childcare in the Queen’s Speech will a huge boost to local hard-working families in East Dunbartonshire.

“These new measures will ensure that children get a fair start in life, and will help local parents juggle their work and family commitments.”
