More roadworks leave drivers – and residents – fuming in Kirkintilloch

Roadworks on Waterside Road

Roadworks on Waterside Road

A FRESH crop of roadworks have appeared on a busy road which is already home to major gas works . . . which will last until March 2013!

Drivers have been left facing delays in Waterside Road in Kirkintilloch due to a £176,000 gas mains upgrade around the junction with Merkland Drive.

The work began this month and will last an eye-watering 20 weeks.

Drivers were unhappy about the notice given before works began.

Now they also hit out at another set of roadworks which have sprouted in Waterside Road, near the garage.

It is not known at this time what the works are for or how long they will last.

That means Waterside Road is reduced to one lane – with traffic lights – at two separate parts of the busy route.

One driver said: “The lights at Merkland Drive take ages because they are three-way, so it’s a nightmare coming into Kirkintilloch.

“Once you’ve made it past there and turned left towards the town centre at Oxgang Primary you make it a few hundred yards and then there’s another set of lights.

“Dear knows what the residents make of it all – they must be choking with the fumes from all the traffic.”
