MP Jo aims to stay strong for East Dunbartonshire
I WILL keep fighting for you - that is the pledge from newly re-elected East Dunbartonshire MP Jo Swinson.
The Lib Dem MP was "absolutely delighted" to be re-elected to the seat, pulling in 18,551 votes – a majority of 2,184.
Labour candidate Mary Galbraith followed closely behind with 16,367 votes.
Ms Swinson's votes dropped by almost 1,000 compared to 2005, when she was first elected to the seat.
At that time, she became the youngest MP in Britain when she just 25-years-old.
Speaking after her victory, she said: "Over the last five years I have loved being MP for East Dunbartonshire and I'm absolutely delighted that people have put their trust in me to continue.
"I will continue to be a strong voice for the people throughout the constituency.
"I think people have voted for me because I have been very involved in local issues, from the proposed renaming of Low Moss Prison to the plans to redevelop Bishopbriggs town centre.
"Issues like these and others of concern, such as the regeneration required in Kirkintilloch, will continue and I will be there to listen and represent residents."
Meanwhile, Tom Clarke held Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill for Labour with another bumper majority, while Gregg McClymont ensured Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch stayed Labour red with a thumping win.
