Multi-million homes scheme opens in former mining village
THE ribbon has been cut at a £4.3million housing project in Twechar – with 41 new homes for rent and ownership.
It’s been completed by Castle Rock Edinvar Housing Association in partnership with East Dunbartonshire Council.
Residents have been involved in the new scheme and have also benefited from the creation of work opportunities, including six new apprenticeships, during the building of the homes by Cruden Building & Renewal.
Scottish Government Minister Keith Brown met one of the successful apprentices, Scott Stevenson, and his partner Kerry Anne Boyd, in their new home when he visited the development last week.
He said: “It was a pleasure to meet Kerry Anne and Scott and it is great to see them happy in their new home.”
Castle Rock Edinvar managing director Alister Steele said: “The new housing complements the extensive efforts of the community to ensure that the village is an attractive and welcoming place to live in the long term.”
David Hopkins, chairperson of the Twechar Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, said: “This has been a long time coming and these new homes have made a huge difference to the lives of people, particularly the elderly in the community.”
Council leader Rhondda Geekie said it was a “hugely positive” step forward in the regeneration of the village.
Residents are being invited to an open day to see proposals for the next phase of regeneration in the village.
The plans include building around 150 homes in Glen Shirva Road.
The open day takes place at the Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre on Tuesday, July 10, from 11am to 7pm.
