Hopes are high that some of the best brass bands in the country will descend upon East Dunbartonshire later this year.

Kirkintilloch Youth Band and Junior Band are currently in the process of organising the first ever East Dunbartonshire Youth Brass Band Championships.

The inaugural competition is set to take place at Milngavie Town Hall on Saturday, May 31.

Kirkintilloch Youth Band was established in 2008 and has already won several competitions including Gold in the 2011 Scottish Youth Championships Novice section at Perth Concert Hall.

Band chiefs made the decision to hold their own championship after recently winning Gold and Silver awards at The Scottish National Championships.

Band secretary Marie Brown said: “We are very excited about holding our own competition and we’re looking forward to a great day of music.”

There will be four sections taking part; the Preparatory Section for bands aged 12 years and under, Novice for bands aged 14 years and under, Development Section for bands aged 16 years and under and a Senior Section for those aged 18 years and under.

Adjudication will be open in all sections and bands will be graded to establish gold, silver and bronze awards at each level.

Entry forms and more information can be obtained by emailing gmslbrown@aol.com.
