New evidence in Bishopbriggs schoolboy murder case
THREE new witnesses have come forward in un unsolved murder case dating back more than 20 years.
Schoolboy Colin McCaskie (16) died from a knife wound in February 1990.
The Scotland under-18 footballer was walking in Springfield Park, near his family’s Bishopbriggs home, when tragedy struck.
Later that year a man appeared in court on murder charges, but the jury delivered a not-proven verdict.
Now, 22 years later, the Crown Office are examining whether a retrial could be permitted under recently-overhauled double jeopardy rules.
The new law means that a person can now be tried twice for the same crime - as long as new evidence has been uncovered and certain conditions are met.
