Moves are underway to tackle a shortage of affordable housing in East Dunbartonshire.
More than 200 new homes will be built across the district over the next four years.
The £9.45million building programme will see East Dunbartonshire Council take ownership of 53 of the homes - 33 of which will be for rent and 20 for shared equity.
And 151 of the properties will be owned by housing associations, 125 of which will be for rent and 26 for shared equity.
The new homes will be built in Kirkintilloch, Bishopbriggs, Milton of Campsie, Torrance, Milngavie and Bearsden.
The plans will now be taken to the next stage. The council intends to appoint a design team to carry out further viability studies into each of the proposed sites, following approval by the Neighbourhood Services Committee.
Councillor Ashay Ghai, neighbourhood services convener, said: “This is a major step forward in our ambitions to develop a range of affordable housing in East Dunbartonshire.
“Given the average cost of housing in the area, and the lack of availability of affordable homes, it is particularly important that we, as a council, do what we can.”
Councillor Ghai added: “By developing a range of housing options we can give future generations the opportunity of living in this area.
“This is an exciting project for the council and I look forward to helping to make these plans a reality.”
The council’s 2013-18 Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP) has identified a number of council projects for future funding.
The council will now assess in detail the viability of each of these projects, including ground surveys, proposed layouts, resident consultations and value for money assessments.
Meanwhile, 65 flats are being built on the banks of the Forth and Clyde Canal, in Kirkintilloch, to offer families the chance of affordable homes.
The £7million development - between Trust Enterprises and the council - is due to be completed in late 2014.
