Nurture a healthy habit!

YOUNG people in Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch are being urged to get active by walking or cycling to school.

The council's Healthy Habits scheme has teamed up with school travel plan co-ordinators to create three 'Way to Go' Routewise Guides for Bishopbriggs Academy, Kirkintilloch High and St Ninian's High.

Each booklet, funded by transport charity Sustrans, is tailored to a specific school and includes an area map showing children how they can get to school without using cars or public transport.

Cllr Billy Hendry, convener of development and infrastructure, said: "Healthy Habits aims to promote walking and cycling and this new booklet, which is a great source of information, helps local children plan a healthy and active journey to school.

"There are a number of reasons why choosing to walk or cycle to school can make a difference not only to your health but also to the environment.

"This handy booklet details the many benefits of travelling in an active and sustainable way."
