Over 1-in-5 guilty of flushing their oil

Householders have been urged to clean up their act after a survey showed that 22 per cent of East Dunbartonshire residents are still putting waste cooking oil down the drain.

Disposing of the oil down the sink means that drain can become blocked, leading to costly repairs - both in the home and to the national drainage network.

It’s also very bad for the environment as it can make its way into watercourses and the food chain.
