Packed public meeting on Bishopbriggs town centre plans

THE people of Bishopbriggs need to have a say in the new, large supermarket which is set to change the face of their town centre forever.

That was the message from anxious members of the public who congregated at a packed 100-strong meeting on Monday, February 28 at the town’s St James the Less Church.

At Christmas time last year, Morrison’s supermarket chain bought the site of the former Bishopbriggs High School in the town centre.

Planning permission is in place for a 64,000 square foot supermarket.

But community leaders say it is vital there is sufficient engagement from Morrison’s with people in Bishopbriggs about the supermarket plans.

Fears have been expressed by people in Bishopbriggs about safety, increased pollution and loss of choice in the town centre.

Donald Mcdonald, chairman of Woodhill Residents group, said: “It’s in our interests to give Morrison’s something they can be proud of rather than just an eyesore.”
