People power helps hospice open its doors

THE new Marie Curie Cancer Care Hospice is almost complete.

Since the start of the year staff have been working hard moving in o the new building and putting the finishing touches to the multi-million pound facility located in the grounds of Stobhill Hospital.

Patients have also started to move in, although the official opening of the new 16.1million hospice will not take place until spring.

The new cancer care facility has been funded by the Big Build Appeal - supported by thousands of people throughout East Dunbartonshire and beyond.

There is still 1.7 million left to raise, but more events are planned to meet the target.

The new facility is replacing the 32-year-old hospice at Huntershill.

Split over three levels, the new hospice has fantastic views of the Campsie Hills.

There are 21 single rooms with en-suite facilities and three, three-bedded rooms for patients who prefer to share.

Aileen Eland, hospice manager, said: "I'm sure everyone who visits the hospice will appreciate the many thoughtful features of the design, which will allow us to meet the requirements of patients and their families in the local area well into the future."

The annual Daffodil Ball, in aid of Marie Curie's Big Build Appeal, is being held at the Hilton in Glasgow on Saturday, March 13. For more details contact the fundraising team on 0141 531 1383.
