Plans down the pan
SCHOOL pupils face a wait for refurbished toilets after revelations that East Dunbartonshire Council's education budget has run dry.
Council chiefs had planned to refurbish the toilets at Auchinairn Primary, Woodhill Primary and Lenzie Academy, but work has been postponed because the budget was found to be 'over-committed'.
Provost Alex Hannah raised the issue at a recent meeting of the council's education and cultural services committee.
He said: "People want answers about why the toilets programme was not completed this year.
"Woodhill Primary School toilets have been an issue for a number of years, but still nothing has been done.
"It is quite worrying to myself that 210,000 has been lost from the budget and people aren't being told when they can expect the work to be done."
A council spokesperson said: "The capital programme for 2008/09 was over-committed, therefore, as the programme progressed and most planned projects were completed to budget, some intended projects required to be postponed.
"This mainly affected the toilet refurbishment programme."
