Plans for new Morrisons goes to site visit

CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a new supermarket in Bishopbriggs town centre will be decided following a site visit - but a petrol station and long stay car park are knocked back.

The applications by Morrisons went before East Dunbartonshire Council’s planning board last night (Tuesday).

It was agreed that councillors visit the site of the proposed new store on the former Bishopbriggs High School site before making a decision.

It was recommended that the application be approved, subject to conditions and conclusion of a legal agreement.

However, there won’t be a petrol station and long stay car park after the plans were rejected.

Many residents have raised a number of concerns about the development.

More than 340 people put forward objections to the new supermarket plans, while a further 296 had objections over the petrol station proposals.
