Polling stations open for Campsie and Kirkintilloch North by-election

RESIDENTS are taking to the ballot box today for the Campsie and Kirkintilloch North by-election.

The vote will decide who will succeed Councillor Charles Kennedy - the former council leader and campaigning community stalwart who died in July.

There are six candidates battling to win votes and be elected as a councillor, namely:

- Ross Greer (Scottish Green Party)

- Billy Hutchison (Scottish National Party)

- Susan Murray (Scottish Liberal Democrats)

- Brian Reid (Independent)

- Alisdair Sinclair (Scottish Conservative and Unionist)

- Gemma Welsh (Scottish Labour Party)

East Dunbartonshire Council’s chief executive Gerry Cornes, who is also the returning officer for the by-election, urged everyone who is registered to vote to cast their ballot.

He said: “Councillors make decisions that affect all of our daily lives so I would encourage the people of Campsie and Kirkintilloch North to have their say on who represents them over the coming years.”

The results of the by-election will be published on the Kirkintilloch Herald website as soon as they are announced.
