Popular park to get major £206,900 makeover
TREE houses, a bike trail and seating are just some of the plans swinging into action for a popular park.
The Friends of Stepps Park have worked on the project for three years and have now secured funding for the improvements.
Plans for the new park have been drawn up with help from landscape architects, community groups and the eco committees from St Joseph’s and Stepps primary schools.
Rosie McKee. of Friends of Stepps Park, said: ‘Securing this pot of funding is a fantastic achievement for our community.”
Funding for the project came from Viridor Credits Environmental Company (£101,904.32), WREN (£75,000) and the Environmental Key Fund (£30,000), via the Landfill Communities Fund.
North Lanarkshire Council has committed 10 per cent match funding.
The project will include installing a set of bespoke tree-house structures, a woodland bike trail, a ‘flying-fox’ zip slide, swings as well as informal seating for social gatherings.
Work on the park will start in spring 2013.
