A POTHOLE scarred road will be resurfaced . . . but not until 2014/15.

Beech Road in Auchinairn has received ‘temporary’ repairs, with potholes filled in with material by East Dunbartonshire Council.

However, there are concerns that the ‘quick fix’ will not last long – particularly given the volume of traffic and cold weather.

Local resident John Semple raised concerns at a recent meeting of Bishopbriggs Community Council.

He told the Herald: “Beech Road is an absolute mess. It’s pock-marked all over the place. I don’t think the stuff they have put in will last very long.

“With the cold weather it will last a fortnight and then we will back to square one. It’s not sealed into the road – it’s just thrown in and patted down. It’s going to get broken again at the edges.”

Mr Semple said he feared for Beech Road if it was not resurfaced for another two years.

He also questioned why a “trench” in Auchinairn Road had not been fixed, adding: “That is the main road. The traffic in Auchinairn Road is horrendous, particularly in the morning and at night.”

David Devine, head of roads and neighbourhood services at East Dunbartonshire Council, said: “Beech Road is on the roads service’s proposed four-year programme for resurfacing in 2014/15. In the meantime it will continue to be monitored and kept safe.”

Regarding reports of a ‘trench’, he said: “There is a utility track on Auchinairn Road with a degree of settlement. It is not currently giving any cause for concern, but we will monitor it and will ensure any repair required will be carried out.”
