Praise for Kirkintilloch campus from Lib Dem leader

SCOTTISH Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie said a college campus in Kirkintilloch has a “good future” during a visit to the facility.

Mr Rennie was touring the East Dunbartonshire Campus of Further and Higher Education, run by Cumbernauld College, along with Jo Swinson MP.

As recently reported in the Herald, Cumbernauld College is set to merge with Motherwell College in August.

However, it’s not been guranteed that the Kirkintilloch campus will continue to be backed by the merged organisation.

The Scottish Government is proposing cuts of more than £34million to colleges.

Mr Rennie said: “The Liberal Democrats in the Scottish Parliament are opposed to the £35million cuts to local colleges and have been pressing the SNP Government to reverse the cut.

“We need more resources to equip people with the skills for work. I was impressed by the work at the Kirkintilloch Campus. It’s got a good future.”

Ms Swinson said: “Kirkintilloch Campus provides first class local learning for young and old to give them the skills for life and work. I was impressed by what I heard and saw at the facility. In times of economic difficulty, it’s important we have local colleges that people are able to access easily.”
