A dedicated young Brownie leader will fly the flag for Guiding in Kirkintilloch tomorrow (Saturday) as
a baton bearer for the Commonwealth Games.

Rachael Muirhead (16) of St Columba’s Drive said she was happy and privileged to carry the baton for the
community when it passes through the area on Saturday.

The teenager was nominated by her group 3rd Kirkintilloch Brownies where she started her guiding vocation at the age of seven.

During her time as a guide in Kirkintilloch, Rachael accomplished the Baden-Powell Challenge Award, which is the highest award in the organisation.

She said: “It was a surprise to be nominated and then chosen to carry the baton. I’m very happy. It’s such a privilege.”

Mum Elaine said: “Rachael joined the 3rd Kirkintilloch Brownies when she was seven and returned there as a young leader. The brownies are all really excited about the event and will be turning out on the day to watch.

“Rachael will be doing the leg of the relay from Peel Park bandstand to the Auld Kirk Museum in the afternoon.”

The baton will pass through Bearsden, Milngavie, Bardowie, Torrance, Lennoxtown, Milton of Campsie, Twechar, Kirkintilloch, Lenzie and Bishopbriggs.
